The Canada Workers Benefit (CWB) is a refundable tax credit to help individuals and families who are working and earning a low income. The CWB has two parts, the basic amount and a disability supplement. Claim the CWB when you file your income tax return.

The Advanced Canada Workers Benefit (ACWB), advance payments of up to 50% of the Canada Workers Benefit will be issued to all those entitled on their income tax return. These advanced payments, issued automatically across 3 payments, put more money in the workers’ pockets to help cope with the rising cost of living. There is no need to apply for this initiative.

Who is eligible for Canada Workers Benefit (CWB) Payment?

To qualify for Canada Workers Benefit (CWB), you need to meet specific criteria. You must have lived in Canada for the entire tax year and be 19 years or older by December 31st, or live with your spouse, common-law partner, or child who meets the age criteria.

Additionally, you must have earned income from employment or self-employment. Your net income must be below a set threshold determined by your province or territory. If you have a child under 19 living with you, you may also qualify. Not meeting these requirements may result in ineligibility for the CWB or similar benefits.

You may qualify for the disability supplement of the Canada Workers Benefit if you have disability tax credit with an approved Form T2201, Disability Tax Credit Certificate from the CRA, and have a net income below the threshold for your province or territory. Basic Benefit Maximum Amount

  • Amount For single individuals – the CWB maximum basic amount for single individuals is $1,518. The  amount reductions is gradual for adjusted net incomes exceeding $24,975 and no basic amount is paid for incomes above $35,095
  • Amount For Families – the maximum basic CWB amount for families will be upto $2,616. The CWB family amount decreases for adjusted family net incomes over $28,494. No basic amount is provided for incomes over $45,934.

Disability Supplement Maximum Amount

Canada Workers Benefit Disability Supplement Maximum Amount is based on the adjusted net income of single individuals and families. The maximum amount for the disability supplement will vary for residents of Quebec and Nunavut.

  • CWB Amount For Single Individuals– The CWB disability supplement Amount is  $784 for single individuals. This is gradually reduced if your adjusted net income is more than $35,098. No disability supplement is paid if your adjusted net income is more than $40,325.
  • CWB Amount For Families –  The CWB disability supplement amount is $784 for families. This amount is reduced if your adjusted family net income is more than $45,932. No disability supplement CWB amount is paid if one spouse is eligible for the disability tax credit and your adjusted family net income is more than $51,159. If both spouses are eligible for the disability tax credit and your adjusted family net income is more than $56,386 the No disability supplement CWB amount will be paid.
